In order to stimulate sustainability in the chain, Royal FloraHolland will present the Greenovation Awards at the Trade Fair Aalsmeer this year for the second time. Cast your vote!
The floriculture industry is changing. Globally, there are many developments in the field of sustainable production and trade. The international consumer increasingly expects a sustainable product. The number of entries for the 2018 Greenovation Awards proves that producers and traders increasingly recognize the importance of sustainability. A professional jury assessed all entries and determined the nominations in the 'Best Concept' and 'Best Article' categories.
Positive developments in packaging materials
A sizeable part of the nominations concerns developments in the area of packaging materials for plants and flowers - paper, cardboard and degradable biomaterials as an alternative to plastics. The jury wholeheartedly welcomes these developments. This way we are making the change from plastics to much more sustainable alternatives together.
The jury calls on the entire sector to drive this development forward, ensuring that our sector is no longer associated with plastic waste, or at least very little. This could for example happen by combining various entries into comprehensive concepts for the growing and packaging of flowers and plants.
